Holly was chosen as Nurse of the Year 2023.

Holly worked in Labor and Delivery for many years. Recently, Holly was a preceptor for a newer nurse and together they were caring for a patient/mom that was causing Holly some concern. The mom was in labor and the fetal monitoring pattern appeared to resemble a sinusoidal pattern which is very rare but simply put, means something is very wrong. However, this tracing didn’t meet all the criteria for a true sinusoidal pattern. When Holly asked providers to look at the pattern, they really didn’t see what she was seeing and felt there wasn’t any cause for concern as the mom wasn’t showing any other signs and symptoms of a baby in distress.

The next morning, Holly was again helping this mom and was still concerned with what she was seeing. Holly contacted MFM, stated her concerns to the OB Provider, and was able to convince the Provider to order some tests. The tests revealed the mom had a concealed uterine hemorrhage and the mom was immediately sent for an emergent cesarean section. The baby was born with a hemoglobin of 3 and was transported to NICU after a very rough beginning but is doing much better and is stable.

If Holly wasn’t as persistent and dedicated to her patients, this situation could have been easily missed because the patient was not exhibiting any other external or obvious symptoms. Holly demonstrated what true advocating for a patient is and also why being a team is so important.

Holly is a nurse anyone would love to have care for them as she is caring, kind, and compassionate. Holly is committed to providing the best care she can for her patients as well as helping new nurses learn and grow in their profession.
