They are excellent advocates for health equity and promote open discussion regarding bias and our need to break our own biases.
Song and Zaundra are excellent role models for health equity. Their leadership of the Nurses of Color ERG has provided a network for connection and action. Song and Zaundra partnered with the simulation team to build simulation-based cases reflective of the experiences of patients and families at Children's Minnesota. They are excellent advocates for health equity and promote open discussion regarding bias and our need to break our own biases.
Song and Zaundra empower those around them, from patients and families to colleagues. Zaundra mentioned many instances where she had conversations with colleagues to help unpack the possible biases at play for a family, promoting health equity and excellent care. Song and Zaundra also provide a supportive environment for colleagues to come together during ERG meetings and activities to improve Children's Minnesota and promote engagement in the community we serve.
Song and Zaundra lead many activities to demonstrate advocacy in the community, including food drives, partnerships with non-profit organizations in need in our community, and opportunities for staff to connect. All of these efforts provide an opportunity to advocate for employees at Children's Minnesota, promoting retention of a diverse workforce reflective of the families we serve, and promoting engagement in the community.
Song and Zaundra never shy away from having real conversations about the barriers families face or employees encounter within and outside the walls at Children's Minnesota. Their leadership in discussing bias and actions needed to promote health equity helps promote open communication regarding our responsibility to address systemic racism and bias in healthcare.
Song and Zaundra have made great strides in creating a community through the Nurses of Color ERG. I often hear from new and experienced nurses the NOC ERG is a driver for them to stay at Children's Minnesota and to help them get engaged in the community. Song and Zaundra are advancing health equity not only for patients and families, but they are also advancing equity for the employees at Children's Minnesota; ensuring the voices of employees are heard and building a community of support.
