Ms. Loftman’s interest in the Nursing Profession was inspired by both her grandma, who raised her and her aunt who is a retired Registered Nurse. The combination of seeing the satisfaction on her aunt’s face every day after work and her grandma, who was an honorary unofficial nurse, taught her that caring, listening, and paying attention to people are just as important as nursing care. All of her upbringing with these phenomenal women ignited a passion for nursing within her. In 1999, Ms. Loftman began her healthcare career as a Public Health Assistant in Cumberland’s Pediatric clinics. After one year, she was accepted into Woodhull’s Patient Care Associate (PCA) program. While working as a PCA, she attended LPN school in the evenings to obtain her License Practical Nursing (LPN) license. She worked for several years as an LPN in Woodhull’s Ambulatory Care community health clinics before returning to school and obtaining her Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing via Woodhull’s RN Career Ladder program. Craving increased autonomy, career advancement, and a more comprehensive education, it prompted her to enroll in Chamberlain’s School of Nursing where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. In the near future, she plans to obtain a certification in Ambulatory Care Nursing and eventually a Master of Science degree in Nursing.
