The Emergency Department was extremely busy. We were already strapped for staff when 3 gunshot victims arrived at the ED simultaneously. Two of the victims required a transfer to a higher level of care for their injuries. We needed a critical care ambulance but the ETA was going to be a minimum of 90 minutes. The patient was critical and couldn’t afford to wait that long and we couldn’t afford to send one of our staff nurses out in the ambulance. Without hesitation to get this critical patient to our trauma center, Nicole, the manager of the ED, rode in the ambulance with the EMTs to continue delivering potentially lifesaving care while en route. She was still at the hospital working well beyond her shift but I’m not surprised. This is who Nicole is; selfless, compassionate, and truly a servant leader! She works tirelessly to serve the community and her ED team…I am very "Trinity Proud" of her!
