Anahi asked me if she could donate supplies, clothes, toys, and her baby swing to this needy couple.
I would like to nominate Anahi for The DAISY Award. We had a patient who was struggling financially and had just relocated here from Mexico. She had no supplies or money. They stated that they were paying for all their appointments by cash since they had no insurance set up and were trying to get situated with a new job. Anahi was always eager to take them every time they came in.
Once the baby was delivered, Anahi spent so much time getting to know the patients and their other children; Anahi asked me if she could donate supplies, clothes, toys, and her baby swing to this needy couple. What makes Anahi stand out is that she took the time to learn about the other children, their names, their ages, and their interests. She came to work on her day off with a carload of supplies including a monster truck for the “big brother” because she learned he loved trucks. She met the patient at their car at discharge to give them all the things she had gathered. There was so much that it barely all fit in the car. The family was overjoyed and very emotional, thanking Anahi for her generosity and kindness.
Anahi gets so many compliments; she is a true listener to her patients. She recently took care of a patient who experienced a fetal loss and spent so much time in the room, listening to her, consoling her, and making her as comfortable as she could possibly be. The patient was so appreciative of her compassion. When I asked staff who they would think deserved this recognition it was Anahi, she continues to give more and more to our patients. Anahi has the true heart of a Nurse, she loves her patients, and it shows. She is so deserving of this recognition.
