We had a new patient on the floor who came to us with swelling in his penis and undiagnosed paraphimosis that had been there for over two weeks. Mia did not have this patient directly but stepped in to not only help identify the issue, but she also took the initiative to help resolve it. All this happened just prior to shift change, so once she had given report on her patients, she stayed an over an hour late to address the situation.

Mia worked so well with the patient/family and ultimately resolved the situation. This provided relief to the patient and support to her fellow staff. Her attitude has always been one of helping out wherever she can with a positive spirit. I think this event highlighted her dedication to not only her patient, but all the patients at Craig Hospital. She took her own time, went out of her way, and was a huge help. The family called her a "rockstar" and even though they had never met her, they were grateful for her care. She is an overall outstanding nurse and should know she is appreciated. She really does go above and beyond.
