She does not stop when she identifies a need until a resolution is found to enhance patient care and the work environment.
I believe she embodies the criteria set forth to receive The DAISY Award. She came to me seeking to transfer to our department early in our transition to the OLG team. She advanced her practice in these years from LPN to RN. At that time, I recognized her desire for professional growth and commitment to continuous learning. In her daily work, she demonstrates patient advocacy, servant leadership, and continuous improvement of workflow processes. She does not stop when she identifies a need until a resolution is found to enhance patient care and the work environment. Every discussion or request is met with, “I’ll do whatever you need, just tell me.” In her role, she prioritizes patient needs and coaches nursing staff on best practices. She has exhibited expertise in service recovery and makes each patient feel important as an individual. In completing post-discharge calls for the 4th floor, it was common for her to spend extra time with a patient calling ‘just to chat.’ She makes connections between care and support during care transition that places her above her peers. She assures positive care experiences for critical care patients and their families, particularly at the end of life. She has supported numerous families through the loss of their loved ones. In one instance, she extended herself to assure burial plans were accomplished outside the country. Her support extends to her teams, as well. She has helped numerous nursing staff in a personal and meaningful way. In addition to providing emotional support, she has helped organize and provide monetary and material resources in times of need. Nursing staff respect and rely on her daily. And professionally, she seeks to help other nurses grow. She coaches behaviors and workflow changes naturally and most often has a resource document to provide. Her current goal is to coach others on the OH Clinical Ladder process. In addition to her primary role, she has a second assignment as House Supervisor. She expands her scope in that role to support patients across the facility. This is a brief glimpse of her and her impact on patients and team members. I cannot thank her enough for the gifts she brings each day. I have had the privilege of working with her directly now for close to 10 years. I trust her judgment and value her contribution to the organization. We are better for her choice to work at OUHC.
