Debbie was a kind and caring person, this is a trait a nurse must have to perform in her chosen field.
I was admitted to the hospital for scheduled surgery and afterward, I was assigned to 4 Pavilion South. RN Debbie Smith was assigned as my attending nurse. Not being very mobile, I was provided excellent care, getting settled into my room. Debbie made sure that I was comfortable, explained how to adjust the bed, utilize the call button, and told me not to hesitate to push the button for assistance, which is what they are there for. She asked how I was feeling, and explained the doctor's instructions as to what I could or couldn’t do. Also, what medications the doctor prescribed, what each one was for, and how often they would be administered. If I had any reactions to the medicine she said to notify her immediately. I did utilize the call button and was promptly attended to, so I never had to wait. I was only in the hospital for a few days and during this time I saw that Debbie was a kind and caring person, this is a trait a nurse must have to perform in her chosen field. She always greeted me with a cheery smile and asked how I was feeling. Never failed to ask if there was anything I needed and if so, it was provided. My care was excellent and could not have asked for anything more. No one likes to be in the hospital, but the kindness shown to me made my stay very pleasant even under the circumstances. I was given my discharge instructions, provided all medications required, and instructions to follow once I was home and if any problems to contact the hospital, and when to follow up with the doctor. Debbie always conducted herself in a professional manner. Our health care providers are dedicated individuals who have made the decision to help others and often we don’t say or recognize how much we appreciate the hard work they do. I feel Nurse Debbie is a prime candidate and should be considered for the DAISY Award. A small token to say thank you for a job well done.
