Being a new nurse can be difficult, but Madison Mishanski has rose to the occasion! Ms. Mishanski has earned the title as Geisinger Community Medical Center April 2022 DAISY Award Winner! New COVID visitation guidelines can be challenging, especially when you have an end-of-life patient in the emergency room. Ms. Mishanski would not let that get in the way of making sure that her patient had an opportunity to see all 8 of his children and even take a picture for them.

The family stated, “Madison spoke directly to our Dad and made him feel listened to and understood. He was able to make every decision for his end-of-life care which made his end-of-life journey less scary and more about his love for his family.”

Ms. Mishanski started working at Geisinger Community Medical Center as a nursing assistant while attending Wilkes University. She graduated with her BSN in 2021 and started her nursing career in the emergency room. Ms. Mishanski stated, “The best thing about working at GCMC's ED is that every shift you know you're not alone. The night shift staff is one big team that works together. If I am drowning, I don't even have to ask before my coworkers are stepping in and helping, and teaching if I don't know something. This helps a lot in being able to give patients the care that they deserve. There's also never a shift I'm not having fun, which makes working a whole lot better!”
