I felt Cathy was like family, and as happy as I was to go home the next morning, I knew I would miss her.
Giving personalized care to our patients is one of our top priorities. Catherine Macasieb is no stranger to providing extraordinary, personalized care to her patients at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Ms. Macasieb earned the title of May 2022 DAISY Award winner!
From a patient who illustrated her appreciation for Ms. Macasieb’s time, attention to detail, encouragement, and positive attitude: Being a patient in the hospital is hard, but Ms. Macasieb’s smile and kindness made it so much better. The patient stated, “I was expecting to go home the same day as my surgery, but it did not work out that way. Cathy quickly made me feel more comfortable by providing me with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and toiletries! I felt Cathy was like family, and as happy as I was to go home the next morning, I knew I would miss her.”
Ms. Macasieb was educated in the Philippines, graduating with her bachelor's in 1993. She started her nursing career in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Joining the Geisinger Community Medical Center family in September 2018. Ms. Macasieb stated, “I chose a career at Geisinger because of the excellent health care provided for their employees and I was even happier when I discovered that staff are all friendly and treated equally, without bias on race and culture. Working here for four years now, I sincerely have felt that the hospital treats you like family and makes sure you are taken care of whether you are a patient or part of the staff. Working at Geisinger, you truly felt that you belong. The best thing about working in my unit is that we work as a team. My colleagues are always helpful and ready to assist. We also have great clinical leaders that are always ready to help and answer questions. Our unit is a happy place to be.” Cathy also stated,” Compassionate and quality patient care is always readily provided we have a great patient-to-nurse ratio. I'm very proud to be a part of the Geisinger. I know that nursing can be back-breaking work, but we chose nursing for a reason. Despite the difficulties we sometimes face each day, I enjoy being a nurse. For me, the best medicine is love and kindness, and the ability to put yourself in another's shoes in times of sickness. Giving your best in delivering quality care the way you want it for yourself and your loved ones. Remember this and you will be able to do what you do best as a nurse and that is to help heal the world, one person at a time.”
We are so proud to have Cathy on our team! She is such an inspiration. Congratulations!
