Jackie took her time after her shift had ended to call my mother-in-law and sing for her.
My mother-in-law was recently admitted to the hospital for Sepsis/UTI and we incidentally found out she has lung cancer. We met Jackie O the day we were transferred out of ICU. She came into the room, and immediately you could tell she was someone who cared with a lot of compassion and who loved her job!
We were on S1B for 5 days where we were welcomed by Jackie with a huge smile and a hug to let us know she truly cared. Jackie was our nurse for one day only, but we had contact with her each day she was working, and she went out of her way to treat us like family and ensure our needs were being met. I cannot say enough for all she did for us both physically and emotionally and as I watched her go throughout her day, I quickly realized that it was not only us she went above and beyond for, but all her patients were given the same that same care and compassion!
Because she did not have the opportunity to check on us during the day, Jackie took her time after her shift had ended to call my mother-in-law and sing for her. It is hard to have family in the hospital and even more difficult when the diagnosis is a terminal condition, but when you encounter beautiful people like Jackie O, it sure makes you stay much more pleasant, and lets you know that everything will be okay!
Jackie deserves this award because she is a wonderful example of what a nurse should be. She exhibits not only a skill set to medically care for her patients, but also the ability to establish the bond of trust with the patient and family and to beam with compassion and care! That is what makes up this wonderful nurse. I would like to thank Jackie O for all her hard work and let her know that it was truly a blessing to know that our family was cared for by this special lady. Please recognize this extraordinary nurse and let her be an example to others of what a real nurse's attitude and work ethic should be.
