There are no words adequate enough to describe the love and care she gives and shows to others, her peers, and patients alike.
Have you ever met someone so selfless and compassionate that it was most definitely clear they were put on this earth to serve others? That is Stephanie. In her every action, she exudes her desire to serve others. There are no words adequate enough to describe the love and care she gives and shows to others, her peers, and patients alike. But I will give it a try by sharing several examples of why Stephanie is deserving of the DAISY Award. Every night that Stephanie works, she arrives with a smile and a gallon size Ziploc stuffed full of candy for anyone who needs a little pick me up through the night. One small but consistent practice:) Every year Stephanie spends countless hours and her own money to turn the ICU into a winter wonderland. Perhaps you've seen her handy work. For several years the ICU was turned into Who-ville. When we were ready for a theme change, Stephanie went to work again to turn our ICU into a candy shop. Every nook and cranny was decorated. And what did she do with the Who-Ville-themed items? Donated them to the pediatric department, of course! Every hand-painted, life-size cut-out included. We recently had a devastating situation where a young mother passed away while in the ICU. Stephanie hand-painted a portrait of the mother! She later presented the painting to the family for them to keep. Such a priceless gift she provided to them! I could continue, going on and on. Like the time when Stephanie was attempting to support a grieving patient's wife who had lost all coping skills and was becoming verbally abusive and using alcohol to cope. Never once did Stephanie want the woman's visitation rights removed. In fact, Stephanie advocated for her, helping others understand the stress and pressure the wife was feeling. The stories like this are endless... To add to it, many of these acts of kindness and generosity have occurred while Stephanie herself is in the midst of crisis, having lost her father unexpectedly and having her sister diagnosed with cancer. At a time when some of us would turn into ourselves and perhaps even express anger, Stephanie continues on with her incredible acts of love and generosity. We are so lucky to have Stephanie on our team. She embodies what it means to be a caregiver. She was most certainly put on this earth to be a nurse. She has found her true calling.
