I nominated my Leader Ms. Morgan Simper for her excellent leadership, compassion, respect, and professional character in L&D and Women's Services. Through her leadership, L&D has achieved many accolades. To mention a few, we achieved: a successful Joint Commission, Tier 1 employee engagement scores, highest physician engagement scores from previous years, high patient satisfaction score, reduced surgical site infection rates.

During the snow storm of 2021, Ms. Morgan coordinated the unit and ensured staff and patients were safe. During the COVID surge, when some nurses left for travel nursing/more money, Ms. Morgan picked up extra night shift to help nurses, she recruited nurses, she hired experienced Travel Nurses and ensured that nurses who worked extra were duly compensated. This action really boosted our morale increased nurse retention. Ms. Morgan is always available for her staff. She checks in on us when the unit is busy. In order to promote meeting attendance, she holds monthly night shift/Zoom meetings so that night shift nurses who could not stay for daytime meetings could attend. She rounds on her staff, listens, and gives one on one attention. She handles issues and misunderstandings with care and impartiality. She is very respectful to me and and other older nurses when talking to us.

For me, Ms. Morgan sends me hand written notes for occasions and to say thank you. She values what I do. When she gives me a task, she follows up to ensure completion. Ms. Morgan is a great asset to my unit L&D in particular and to Memorial Hermann in general.
