Erica is the kindest person that you will ever meet and wants nothing more than knowing that every patient that comes through the facility gets the best care.
As a team, we work closely with Erica and believe that she is not only one of the best people and nurses that we know, but she is also “the leader” that every nurse and patient deserves and is in every aspect, a DAISY Nurse. Erica makes us a better team and better nurses, therefore, patients receive the care that they deserve. When Erica is on the floor, everything runs smoother, we are a team and no one has to ask for help because we don’t work individually. This leads to excellent patient care.

P- Possesses admirable attributes: Admirable attributes, when those come to mind we think of respect, accountability, honesty, and resiliency to only name a few. We cannot think of Erica Howell without those attributes as well as many others coming to mind. Erica is respectful and kind to not only her patients but her coworkers as well. She is accountable and holds her team accountable, which leads to patients receiving the care that they need. Resilient would be the word that most describes Erica, she is able to “bounce back” from anything that comes her way during a shift and gives the care that is needed to all.

E- Excel at educating patient/family: Erica takes the time with patients and their families to make sure they fully understand and agree with the care, treatment plan, and discharge needs of all patients. She does this without fail every time for not only her patients but as charge nurse to the patients/families of her team.

T- Teamwork: Teamwork is one of the best qualities that Erica has. If you look at the “Appreciation Board” on Med3, you will see that her team has given her praise many times for being not only a great leader, but her presence somehow makes us all work better as a team. There are days that you have to ask for help, that never happens when Erica is a part of the team, we all know that we are supported. Somehow, she knows when we need her help without being asked. She gets it, does it, and makes us better for it.

A- Advocate for the patient: Erica advocates for all patients, not just hers, EVERY patient. Erica is the kindest person that you will ever meet and wants nothing more than knowing that every patient that comes through the facility gets the best care, is educated on their care/outcomes, and has the information to make the best decisions regarding their care. She absolutely puts the patient's best interest and right to make informed and educated decisions first.

L- Live the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization:

• The mission of Scott Memorial Health is Making Communities Healthier. Erica does this every shift she works. She continues to work in the outpatient program, promoting it to the population that may otherwise not receive care. She educates the patients about the care that they are able to receive whether inpatient or outpatient.

• The vision of Scott Memorial Health is to create a place where people will choose to come for healthcare, physicians will want to practice and employees will want to work. We truly believe that patients will choose healthcare if they have Erica as a nurse. She is warm and kind, gives excellent patient care, and educates patients about not only their admission but their needs after discharge. Erica works well with all physicians, knowing that the nurse/physician relationship is key for patient care. Employees WANT to work with Erica. She is a team player, a teacher when she needs to be and the best support system a fellow nurse could ask for.

• The values of Scott Memorial Health are honesty, Integrity and trustworthiness, inclusion, compassion, and legal/compliance. There are not many words left to be said, as these all describe Erica. S- Special connection with patient/family: Erica connects with every patient and family member that she meets. The patients and family members not only view her as the caregiver but also as someone that they trust, love, and respect. She forms bonds with the patients and their families and truly cares about every person whom she crosses paths with.
