Courtney has a way with families in end of life decision making in which she can come down to their level and explain everything.
Courtney is vital to our night shift team. She is the "silent" extra ER nurse that the ER really needs right now during this staffing crisis. Courtney usually spends most of her night doing hands on patient care, triaging, team nursing, etc. in the ER to keep them from drowning and overall managing the flow of the hospital. Courtney somehow finds time to insert midlines and runs codes. She is certified to teach ACLS and does an amazing job organizing the code and speaking to the families. Courtney is dependable- she rarely misses work and when she is here she does her job to the best of her ability. She filters calls from staff wanting to call their directors at odd hours and she filters calls coming from the outside regarding complaints and other issues. Courtney has a way with families in end of life decision making in which she can come down to their level and explain everything, simply helping those families making very hard decisions. In her free time she keeps educating herself, she reads up to date articles and educates the staff around her. She is just truly amazing. I thank her daily for her hard work, she is a great role model.

Courtney is always willing to help on all floors when needed. At the beginning of her shift, she assesses each unit and their needs. If a unit has a patient they are worried about she will go and assess that patient and follow up with the nurse and patient all throughout the night. Several nights she has worked the ER due to staffing, yet still been available to other units when needed. On more than one occasion she has transported a patient to CT and back to their room for a stat scan. She takes new nurses and works with them 1:1 on perfecting their IV skills. When a nurse on Med Surg suddenly became tachycardic and then went into AFIB, she took her to the ER to be worked up and kept checking on her while she was there. Courtney will contact the MD regarding a patient if you (the primary nurse) are busy taking care of another patient. Courtney sets an excellent example for the rest of us with teamwork. She goes above and beyond the call of duty.
