I have always believed that some people just naturally shine. Sophia definitely is one of those people.
I was a patient for 2 weeks following a continued health decline and syncope episodes. I have been chronically ill for 3 years and have been progressively declining due to an autoimmune disorder. When I arrived at the hospital, I was feeling beyond defeated, hopeless, and broken. Shortly after my admission that would change due to the genuine compassion of Sophia. I have always believed that some people just naturally shine. Sophia definitely is one of those people. She leads with her heart and her career is her true calling. Sophia listened with true empathy. She genuinely encouraged me with each interaction, she immediately identified my pain management needs, and made sure my pain was effectively managed. She anticipated my needs and got to know my routine and preferences. She advocated for me and my care at every turn.
As a result, I was able to truly rest and work on my recovery because for the first time during a hospital stay, I felt truly seen, acknowledged, and understood. For someone with chronic illness that is the most priceless act of kindness that is rarely received. If that wasn’t enough, Sophia went to the store on her own time and returned at her next shift with a gift bag of treats for me. She lifted my spirits at every turn. Sophia reminded me to see myself beyond my illness, and to keep looking forward with a hopeful heart. Sophia’s natural ability to bring light, encouragement, advocacy, and genuine compassion to those in her care is a true gift. Sophia shines and it was a blessing to have her as my nurse. I will never forget her kindness. Thank you for shining your light Sophia, you have rekindled my hope.
