My dad (age 79) was in the hospital for 12+ days. He was very sick with pneumonia. He also has Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia. I stayed overnight many times to give my dad familiarity and comfort. From the very first day, Carleen came in she was personable, caring, and had already read my dad’s chart. She treated my dad, my mom, and me as her own family. She made sure I had a warm blanket and ice water too. I usually cut my dad’s nails but one day she said; “I would like to cut your dad’s nails” and she asked him while I was there. She went above and beyond. Carleen cut my dad’s fingernails and toenails, filed them, put lotion on them, and combed his hair. We were so grateful for Carleen’s willingness beyond her job duties. She shared a story about a family member that has dementia and was able to give me support and resources. Carleen was always smiling and truly showed she loved her job caring for others. If I ask questions she didn’t know, she would find out for me. She always made sure my dad got his nighttime ice cream too. She is a very special person and RN.
