Peggy immediately became his advocate – connecting with his case worker and dialysis units near his home to support closer travel.
Peggy took over the primary assignment of a challenging patient who would travel two hours each way to his three-hour dialysis treatment, three days a week. The fatigue of this drive only added to his emotional and behavioral difficulties. Local dialysis units in his area wouldn’t accept him as a patient due to his frequent outbursts. Peggy immediately became his advocate – connecting with his case worker and dialysis units near his home to support closer travel. She used her resources and asked for help from our multidisciplinary providers. She always remained patient and took a step back when he needed to calm himself.

Peggy cared for all of his needs, not just his kidney disease. She worked tirelessly – answering calls and sending paperwork, and finally found a dialysis unit close to his home. Peggy persevered in getting the job done. She went above and beyond, even organizing a going away party to help him with the transition to a new place. Peggy provided his new dialysis unit with helpful advice on how to ease his anxiety, the best way to spark a conversation, and what his personal interests were. She is a true patient advocate who fights to provide the best possible care.
