During shift change one evening, a patient coded and with that patient was their young child (with no other family). The young boy was scared and worried about his parent. Shelby took the time to stay with the boy and take him to a different room away from the code. She got him snacks, helped him find a video to watch and spoke with him to help calm him down. Her initiative in making sure the boy stayed calm and safe was noticed and greatly appreciated. Shelby’s action proved that it is not only the patient that matters but the family as well. Thank you, Shelby, for taking care of this young boy while we took care of his parent.

I want to thank my mom’s nurse on the 3rd floor. She went above and beyond. My mom was not easy to deal with. She has memory issues and was irritated and snapped at everyone. Shelby always treated my mom with care and respect. She had a way of calming her down and getting her to smile, my mom wanted her to be her nurse all the time. She isn’t just a nurse; she is a caregiver who really cares about her patients.
