Katie calmly continued to advocate for the patient.
There was a very sick and complex patient in PACU. Katie the RN, when caring for the patient recognized that there were complications that required escalation to the surgeon. The patient continued to have worsening complications and Katie calmly continued to advocate for the patient to get a surgeon into PACU to assess the patient. After a long period of time, a different surgeon came to PACU and recognized the urgency of the situation and the need to give blood and return the patient to the OR for surgery. Katie remained calm, giving the patient excellent care, helping the non-English-speaking parents with updates, preparing the patient for surgery while giving a blood bolus, and drawing labs. I was so impressed with her nursing! I am so proud to work side by side with her. She is a great nurse and the patient was lucky to have her as their advocate. I thank her for taking such good care of this patient. She truly is an amazing (DAISY) nurse!
