Lu even came in on her day off and helped the wound ostomy RN and the Kendrick unit with the discharge of the patient.
For the past two months, the unit has cared for a very complex poly-trauma patient whose home is out of the US. From the moment he arrived, Lu has gone above and beyond to provide amazing nursing care. She spoke the patient’s preferred language and volunteered to be his nurse whenever she worked. Lu spoke with his family, asked him questions about his home life, and provided comfort when he was in an unfamiliar place. Lu even came in on her day off and helped the wound ostomy RN and the Kendrick unit with the discharge of the patient. She assisted with translation of surgical wounds, site dressing change instructions, and explained the complicated education for ostomy supplies and skin care.

Lu also assisted in explaining where to purchase low-cost supplies or free medical supplies for the patient while he was in Phoenix due to the patient having no medical insurance. Due to Lu being a compassionate and loving person, this patient and his family were given great care while at Northern Arizona Healthcare and made his stay less distressed. Thank you for being you!

Lu is a new nurse, but upon meeting her, it did not feel that way. Gazing into her eyes, I could look back and see many lifetimes of caring and compassionate work. She has been a nurse before and her journey in this life is more complete becoming one again. As I write this and prepare for surgery, I have been in this hospital for 10 days. I have met many wonderful nurses. Lucero shines! In my business, I am very meticulous…double check….triple check…I noticed with her, the same attribute right away. A mental sigh of relief. Her eyes are warm. Her mind is sharp. The way of nursing is inside her. Balanced, steady, and calm. Thank you, Lu! No Tengo Miedo!
