An adult cerebral palsy patient with developmental delays was having a hard time adjusting to the inpatient hospital setting. His one request of staff was to have a badge like the nursing staff. The patient and family were limited English Proficient, which made understanding the exact request a bit more of a challenge. Staff obtained an Emory badge reel for the patient but it still wasn’t fully meeting the patient’s wishes. Sophie took it upon herself to create a ‘cartoon’ version of an ID badge with the Emory Logo on the computer. She proceeded to print, cut, and laminate it. Once she attached his pretend hospital badge to the badge reel, the patient smiled ear to ear and said "now I’m just like you". Sophie truly went above and beyond in a creative way to make the patient feel welcomed to the unfamiliar setting of the hospital.
