While Lulu's primary role is a nurse on 7SA, she has served as a WORN RN for a week each schedule for many years. I nominated Lulu for a DAISY Award because of her unwavering commitment to excellent patient care in regard to her wound and ostomy knowledge and skills. Lulu is committed to her role as a WORN. She is at every PIP Day and makes herself available for the needs of the hospital and our patients for that week when she is the WORN role. But this is not what makes her a DAISY RN. I nominated Lulu for the DAISY Award as a WORN RN because of her practices when she is not actively in the WORN role.

Lulu is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest evidence, reading journals and attending education sessions about wound and ostomy care, often using her personal PLN funds for these. More so, however, is the support Lulu provides to her colleagues and our patients. Just because Lulu isn't actively in the WORN role doesn't mean she ever stops being a WORN. Lulu is our unit expert, and every time a colleague has a question or she overhears something about a patient with a new ostomy or challenging wound, she takes it upon herself to do a quick review and offer tips and assistance. In situations where her expertise requires more time, she never hesitates to swap things around so that she can place her attention on the complex wound at hand while still ensuring that her regular patient care is still managed.

Lulu is a leader in wound and ostomy care and takes every opportunity to help educate her peers. She passes along important emails, posts about new products and information, makes announcements during huddles, and often leaves little reminders about the importance of turn documentation. Lulu not only provides supreme wound/ostomy care herself, but her impact has tentacles as she is a constant active resource for everyone around her, ensuring that patients far and wide are receiving excellent wound/ostomy care. Her unwavering commitment to our wound and ostomy patients is ongoing, and her impacts are profound. Congratulations, Lulu, on your DAISY Award!
