My son was in the NICU for 9 months after being born at 23 weeks. Amanda took care of him as her primary. I was a first-time mom and the NICU made the experience even scarier, but Amanda was like a superhero! She took care of him like her own! She advocated for him in every situation, was one of the only nurses who explained to me and his dad what different tests, procedures, and diagnoses were. Most importantly, she was there for us emotionally; having a baby in the NICU is already tough, but Amanda made it so much easier by listening to us and giving good advice. She helped my son in so many ways, she felt like family and me, his dad, and my son will forever be grateful for having her as his nurse. Even on those super busy days when they were under staffed and over worked, Amanda made time to make sure my son was cuddled, bathed, dressed, and happy! She cared deeply for my son, and it showed in everything that she did. We will forever remember her and be grateful that she made a tough experience a little easier.
