She engaged him in conversation, making him feel like a human being again, giving him a reason to go on, celebrating each of his accomplishments along the way, while also being the most excellent and efficient nurse I have ever had the pleasure to witness!
My husband has been to Banner UMC four times in the last five weeks, each time for very serious cardiac issues, and if you haven't heard this before, I want you to hear it now...EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THE 6EW CARDIOTHORACIC FLOOR SHOULD BE GIVEN A MEDAL OF HONOR. Faithfully, tirelessly, with grace and kindness, each and every employee that we encountered consistently went above and beyond. Not once did I hear a grumble or see a sour look. Not once did I have to search for anyone to help, as there was always someone ready and willing just a moment's notice away.
With all of that said, however, there is one employee who consistently rose head and shoulders above the rest. When he first arrived, he was in cardiogenic shock, with a blood pressure of 70/48. While he had been stabilized by the time he got up to the floor, Brittany quickly recognized that he, like many other long-term cardiac patients, was extremely depressed, tired, and discouraged. He did not think he was going to live. Brittany also recognized that I (his wife ) was also tired and overwhelmed. None of this deterred Brittany. She was cheerful. She was encouraging. She engaged him in conversation, making him feel like a human being again, giving him a reason to go on, celebrating each of his accomplishments along the way, while also being the most excellent and efficient nurse I have ever had the pleasure to witness! She multi-tasked! She gave pills! She ran circles around us, giving great care all while being upbeat and cheerful! Maybe we were just unbelievably lucky because Brittany was assigned to us on more than one occasion.
On the last day, we were there, one day after he had a VT ablation, she was even assigned as a mentor, and I got to watch as she carefully monitored and tutored the other nurse's progress, lucky girl! I wish I were better with words, so that I could adequately convey what a difference her attitude made in my husband's welfare. He looked forward to having her as his nurse so that he could show her that he had made some progress and watch as her eyes sparkled with real joy and delight that he had improved! Brittany, please know that you made a huge difference in his life and mine! We appreciate all that you have done for us. Thank you so very much.
