He remained calm, used a soothing voice, and made eye contact with her each time he spoke. I knew he was not just going through the motions and that he truly cared.
Adam cared for my mother after she sustained an injury--an injury that would later take her life. The care Adam provided my mother was kind and diligent. She was in distress and the injury was serious; however, Adam's confidence in what he could and could not do safely as he cared for her gave me and our family so much comfort. My mom was uncomfortable and chronically anxious, but Adam did not get frustrated once and answered every request with kindness--even placing a rolled-up washcloth behind her neck to maximize her comfort. When my wife asked if she could participate in her care, Adam showed her how to use the green sponges to wet her mouth. This gave my wife something of value to contribute to the care of my mom which meant so much to us.
The manner in which Adam looked after my mother was comforting to watch. He remained calm, used a soothing voice, and made eye contact with her each time he spoke. I knew he was not just going through the motions and that he truly cared. At one point she vomited and he cleaned her up without hesitance. Wow! I cannot imagine what nurses like Adam go through on a daily basis.
Later in his shift, Adam accompanied my mother on her critical transfer to Philadelphia. Knowing Adam was with her, took this bad experience and allowed us to be at peace with it. My mother passed, not shortly after all this, but we continue to have that peace because of Adam. Of note, I'd like to share--not that Adam could have controlled this--but something that gave us even more peace. My mother has four grandchildren, one of the four being a boy name Adam.
