Minerva Layug has been my mentor since joining Cooperman Barnabas. As one of the persons responsible for my on-boarding, Minerva dedicated her time to ensure I welcomed, supported, and thoroughly trained from the start. I have been lucky to have found a unit I can fit into seamlessly on 1 West. Even though I am new grad (night shift RN) on the unit, I have never felt isolated from her guidance. She ensures we remain connected to her through her own educational creation and ongoing refreshers she holds for the unit. We know she is a phone call away if we ever need her. Her teaching style is interesting, helpful, and easy to understand. Minerva allows us, especially scared new nurses, to provide the best possible care for our patients, and makes unfamiliar territories less intimidating. I firmly believe Minerva embodies Nursing Excellence. She fosters positive engagement, alleviates the anxiety we have as newer nurses, and helps me be a part of a floor that is already a family. Her traits I admire are compassion, caring, empathy, demonstrates positive mental outlook, fresh thinking, and obtains full commitments throughout the organization. She has inspired myself and many other new nurses to improve on our own practice and provide high-quality care.
