She advocated for her patient and made sure to keep the little things (that make all the difference to patients/families) at the forefront of our care.
Mendi recently took care of a multiple-injured trauma patient that had a pattern of injury that we don't see very often and required a lot of coordination of care. Mendi handled this patient with an outward calmness that really helped the entire team. She advocated for her patient and made sure to keep the little things (that make all the difference to patients/families) at the forefront of our care. Mendi also cared for the family.
The accident that injured our patient caused the death of two additional members of this family and Mendi somehow managed to care for the family despite her patient being so sick. She picked up extra shifts so that the family would have some continuity, especially on the day the patient was having a big surgery. She also managed to be a great neighbor and help other nurses on the unit. Mendi did all of this without any expectation or acknowledgment of her efforts. I was truly humbled by the care she gave this patient and her family.
