Alex has demonstrated the highest quality of care one can expect as a cancer patient. As an oncology infusion nurse, Alex has been a strong supportive force in my cancer journey during the challenging chemo treatments over the past year. When I started my first chemo treatment last summer, I was very nervous and did not know what to expect. Going to chemo felt like one of the last options for late-stage cancer patients so there was a lot going on mentally in addition to the blunt physical side effects. Alex warmly introduced herself to us and we talked about the families. She explained to me the sequence of the day's events and what to watch for after I came home. She put me at ease immediately and I felt I was in caring and good hands.

Later I participated in a clinical trial and continued the care with Alex. The clinical trial was tough and a bit tricky; there were more before and after checks. I asked a lot of questions and she answered many to my satisfaction on the spot. One week after I switched to new and harsh chemo, I felt horrible with pains, dehydration, and a bloated stomach. I rushed to the hospital, and I was happy that Alex was on duty that day. She came in and gave me a hug. Then she assured me that I would feel better after some IV fluid and morphine.

Alex understands that the infusion could be very exhausting and draining for her patients and caretakers. She arranged lunches and kept checking to make sure we were well taken care of. Some infusion days were more than four to five hours long, Alex fetched the drugs as fast as she could to minimize the wait to start. Before the finish, she lined up everything ahead of time so we could go home promptly. Alex is very skillful and well prepared each infusion with her has been very smooth. She is gentle and patient. One vein in my left arm was easy to draw blood from but got scarred I asked her if she can use the right arm. She smiled at me and said yes. She has remembered since to use the right arm.

My husband along with my two adult children have all interacted with Alex and we all love her. We felt she treated us like good friends remembering the things we talked about and knowing what to say to make us calm and comfortable. She exemplifies the positive difference a nurse can make to cancer patients and their families with her excellent support through some of the most different times.
