Stephanie has shown her dedication to our team and its mission of providing high-quality care for our fellow team members throughout the pandemic by literally creating a scheduling system from scratch.
Stephanie Kelsey is an incredibly tenacious, thoughtful, person-centered nurse. She has become the self-appointed scheduling leader for the Sick Line, which has an incredible impact on our team satisfaction and the care we provide the team members who require guidance from the Sick Line.

Prior to Stephanie’s willingness to take on this role, the seven original Sick Line nurses would separate into our shift-based teams (days, evenings, nights) and hash out our schedule as a duo or trio. This worked when there were only a few nurses, and everyone was basically able to obtain the schedule that they wanted. But as our current COVID-19 wave never really receded and our call volumes exceeded what the seven of us could handle on our own, it was clear we needed more help.

With more help (both permanent and temporary) comes additional complicated schedules, childcare needs, and other life responsibilities. As one of the oldest members of the Sick Line core staff, Stephanie has courageously taken on the responsibility of creating an entire scheduling system for our growing team of 12+ (including a range of FTEs from .4 to 1.0 that never seem to add up perfectly) and performed this task with an incredible amount of grace and sensitivity to the needs of every single Sick Line nurse. While many nurses take for granted the immense amount of planning and consideration that scheduling requires, not to mention the fact that most learn a scheduling system and stick to it, Stephanie has shown her dedication to our team and its mission of providing high-quality care for our fellow team members throughout the pandemic by literally creating a scheduling system from scratch.

This latest role addition further underscores the importance that sufficient, supportive staffing has on much larger, hospital-wide needs, which includes getting team members back to work as efficiently as possible.

Stephanie Kelsey exemplifies nursing excellence and Children’s Hospital Colorado's mission and values so clearly. Her commitment to our team, as demonstrated by the additional hours she takes on to create a scheduling system that works for everyone, benefits not only our relatively small team but impacts the larger CHCO healthcare system. Most importantly, she does it with a smile and always with the purest of intentions. She absolutely is a DAISY Nurse. We are lucky to have such a gem of a person on our team!
