She is quite obviously truly exceptional at what she does, she has a deep passion for her work and clearly finds fulfillment in the incredibly difficult and challenging job that she has.
Frankly, I don't think I can adequately articulate exactly how incredible Devon was as a nurse for my wife, our baby girl, and our entire family. From the moment we met "Devon 'till 7", we knew we were in the best of hands. My wife went through a very long and challenging labor, and when our baby girl was finally born via emergency C-Section, she then had to spend over 48hrs in the Special Care Nursery. This left mom feeling sad, scared, and alone, on top of all of the pain she was experiencing physically as her body began to recover.
Devon was extremely kind, patient, attentive, caring, nurturing, understanding, and every other thing to describe a nurse that went the extra mile to care for her patients and treat families like people with complex needs outside of just the clinical aspect of care.
Our stay in the hospital was long, challenging, and exhausting. Every minute of time spent during Devon's shifts was exponentially better than without her. She was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about both mom and baby. Her bedside manner was exceptional and we felt comforted and assured by her presence. When we finally got baby girl back from the nursery, she taught us so much about how to care for, soothe, and feed the baby.
Every step of the way Devon consistently went the extra mile. We had a lot of great nurses taking care of our family during our stay at Duke Regional, and even then Devon stood out above all the rest. She is quite obviously truly exceptional at what she does, she has a deep passion for her work and clearly finds fulfillment in the incredibly difficult and challenging job that she has.
After 2 shifts when we said goodbye to Devon, it felt like we were saying goodbye to family. It's hard to imagine that a more perfect nurse could possibly exist. I am immensely grateful for Devon and feel our family was blessed to be in her care. I'm not sure that we would have come out on the other side as strong and confident and capable as we did had it not been for Devon. Devon, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
