Kelly acted without any hesitation to provide the most compassionate care possible and ensure the patient was able to achieve the best possible outcome.
Five o’clock on a 93-degree Friday, a Spanish-speaking patient required more than the ordinary provisions of care at our infusion center. Kelly, who consistently goes above and beyond for her patients, did not hesitate to do what was necessary to prevent an emergency room visit or hospital admission. After providing thorough clinical care for a young, anxious patient receiving chemotherapy for her cancer, Kelly realized that the patient would require further assistance picking up her prescriptions. Kelly felt the patient needed to pick up the newly prescribed pain medication from an earlier palliative care appointment so that she would be comfortable enough to care for her daughter when she got home. Kelly escorted the patient, via wheelchair, from the infusion center to the apothecary to assist her due to the language barrier and picked up the prescriptions. With prescriptions in hand, Kelly then wheeled the patient back to the infusion center, where she helped the patient into an Uber to get home safely. Kelly acted without any hesitation to provide the most compassionate care possible and ensure the patient was able to achieve the best possible outcome, despite the grueling heat and physical intensity that was required that day.
