Our new Chief Operating Officer was rounding in the kitchen and happened upon an employee named E who shared her experience when she was a patient at BUMCP. Last Friday, we were able to unite E with Kelly Schaich who she credits for her recovery when she was a patient on 2D with COVID. This was in the early stages of the pandemic when there was much uncertainly. She spoke of Kelly's unwavering advocacy and memorable care which included getting her a bed that would support the proning in a more comfortable manner, washing her hair, having therapy services available to elevate her recovery, and her relentless support to never give up. She spoke of her loneliness as she was unable to have any visitors and how Kelly stayed by her side to comfort her during this difficult time. E often thought of Kelly over the last 2 years and hoped to one day be able to see her again to thank her for being her biggest cheerleader. E made so many poignant statements during her reunion and credits Kelly for being here today. I've always known the impact Kelly and so many of you have had on our patients and families. You don't always get the same opportunity as Kelly, but know that you have likely been remembered fondly for the impact you had on a patient, the care they've received, and their recovery.
