My nurse helped to recruit members to our group which started out small and over the course of two years has grown, proving to be a valuable resource to survivors.
In 2018, I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. I was very surprised to learn that there was not a lung cancer support group anywhere in the Kansas City Metro. In the Turning Point brochure, I saw there were many support groups however, none that would meet the unique needs of a lung cancer patient. As a former licensed clinical social worker, I dedicated myself to working with the Overland Park Cancer Center to build my own support group with a newly assigned social worker making flyers to promote the group. My nurse helped to recruit members to our group which started out small and over the course of two years has grown, proving to be a valuable resource to survivors. We are getting ready to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the “Living with Lung Cancer Support Group". None of this would be possible without the support, hard work, and dedication of this nurse.
