Megan would respond with a comforting “I see you and I hear you.” These simple words reaffirmed the need many patients possess to feel they are a valued participant in their own healthcare.
As a nurse with over 15 years of experience providing care within the BayCare system, I have been honored to witness many examples of exceptional patient care provided by my coworkers. Kind and compassionate care that has greatly impacted the lives of their patients. Unfortunately, over the past two years, I have found myself in need of care as I have been a patient multiple times. Two of these admissions were due to COVID and I was sent home with HHC and telehealth monitoring.

While I would like to commend the entire Telehealth team for the dedication, kindness, and compassion they have shown me over the 6 weeks in the program, this RN did stand out above the rest. Having been first sick with covid back in 2020, I unfortunately suffered permanent damage from covid. Because of the damage from my first round of covid, you can imagine how scared I was to have covid again.

During my 6 weeks in the program, this nurse expressed sincere concern for how I was feeling with each phone call. She demonstrated the touching ability to find a connection and convey heartfelt and sincere empathy and compassion for my situation. In addition to monitoring my numbers, she offered me emotional support and kind words of encouragement on the worst days. She was patient and understanding when I needed to catch my breath while talking. She did not correct me or make me feel embarrassed when I could not find the words I wanted to say. As with anyone suffering from a long-term illness, there are many days I feel frustrated and believe my concerns to be unseen and unheard. Megan would respond with a comforting “I see you and I hear you.” These simple words reaffirmed the need many patients possess to feel they are a valued participant in their own healthcare.

I would like to recognize this nurse for the extraordinary care she provided me. These are just a couple of examples of how she positively impacted my care and recovery. What a beautiful gift it is to be able to touch the heart and life of a patient you have never met in person. She is a beautiful example of this gift and is to be commended for the difference she makes in the lives of her patients.
