I am constantly amazed at how much compassion Ri shows through her interactions with patients and others.
Ri has always gone above and beyond for not just her own patients but for all patients. I've witnessed her devote much of her time and energy to advocating for her colleague's patient while her colleague was on break. She recognized that the patient had financial difficulties and cannot afford a car service home after surgery. Concerned that the patient did not have a safe way home, she contacted the social worker to facilitate. Unfortunately, the social worker informed her that the hospitals do not give out vouchers and the patient would have to find some way to get home. Ri escalated this situation to the manager and to the director of perioperative services. With all of their efforts. This patient was able to get a voucher through her insurance. We all saw Ri work so hard speaking up for the patient who was probably too tired from anesthesia to speak up for herself.

We also see another example of Ri's compassionate side in an instance where she managed to calm a "difficult" patient simply by repositioning him. This patient was loudly shouting and moaning in pain after a simple procedure and other nurses' attempts to relieve the pain with medications and repositioning him into a chair did not help. When Ri approached him, she inquired about where his pain is and the reason behind his pain. He told her that he has bad arthritis and it's all over his body. He refused to move and reposition himself. However, with Ri's encouragement, she gathered staff to help reposition him. He was sleeping comfortably after that.

I am constantly amazed at how much compassion Ri shows through her interactions with patients and others. She is not only an exceptional nurse, but she also shows great leadership qualities. She is frequently the backup or covering charge nurse when our ANCC nurses are not working or on break. She proved that she knows how to efficiently manage a very busy recovery room. Ri's empathy, compassion, and leadership qualities show that this nurse is one of a kind.
