He felt valued by Crystal. He felt that his health was important and felt like a person - not just an illness.
My ex-father in law is a dialysis patient at the VA. He has been struggling with health issues since April 2019 and has had several inpatient admissions. He is a remarkable man who possesses witty intelligence, a supportive nature, and a robust work ethic. As a small business owner for many years, he developed a keen ability to identify strengths in others and expects quality workmanship. He is fair and kind but isn't always the easiest man to please.
He had a heart cath and after the procedure, he was admitted overnight and did well. When I called to check on him, he said he had the best nurse he's ever had in his life. She was funny, smart, and she came in and check on him. She worked hard. He continued on and on about Crystal and her professionalism, welcoming nature, sense of humor, and intelligence. When I asked if I could share his story with her supervisor, he responded saying "absolutely, we need more nurses like her".
His experience with her was a welcome one. His health struggles are hard for him and his family. The routine dialysis and constant worry become monotonous at some point, making others numb to the intense feelings that being ill brings. While he is pretty good at taking struggles in stride, there are times he gets down and frustrated. He felt valued by Crystal. He felt that his health was important and felt like a person - not just an illness. He was able to joke around for a little while and enjoy his inpatient stay. Crystal helped him in so many ways and we could not be more grateful. Thank you, Crystal, for being a Rockstar nurse. We wish you and all your staff health and happiness.
