I had a laparoscopic colectomy of the sigmoid colon and seemed to be progressing nicely until the late afternoon two days later when I had a tachycardia event which triggered the rapid response team to my room. It was later determined I had a hematoma from one of my incisions and had lost some blood most likely triggering this event.

Jennifer relieved my other nurse shortly after all of this and had a real handful to manage. My cell phone had died, and both my mom and girlfriend started calling repeatedly just after shift change for an update on my condition and for my room’s phone number. Jennifer calmly and effectively communicated my status to both, and the repeat calls were due to the number being written down incorrectly even though Jennifer properly gave it to them a few times. Once I did speak to my mom and girlfriend, they found that I was stable and doing ok.

Therefore, I would like to nominate Jennifer for her outstanding display of integrity. She walked into a very difficult and unpleasant shift change where my family was being needy while I also had needs and getting set up for transfer to the surgical step-down unit. All this while also taking stellar care of multiple other patients needing needs and other needs tended to as well. Jennifer truly displayed the highest level of professional standards while also maintaining the trust and confidence of all with whom she engaged during that rough 2 to 3 hours period. I am a quality manager in my profession and she truly impressed me handling that very stressful situation the way she did while smiling and keeping the situation calm for everyone.
