When I was discharged, Jacob came in on his day off and wished me good luck and I thanked him for all the work he put into me.
When I came into the unit, all I heard was this crazy nurse Jacob. Well as soon as we met I knew it was true, we were both crazy. We picked on each other all the time. He would turn on my light and get me started walking. He would push me to walk faster and further each day. He said the more I walked, the better it would be after the transplant. We would play jokes on each other all the time; a couple of times I got him with the saline solution- he just laughed. Then one day we were talking about the chest tubes, he told me they were uncomfortable and wouldn’t really hurt. That helped a lot. He was a big support for me. Always pushing me, which I really appreciated.
One day I called him buttercup, he didn’t know what to say. When someone asked me later how I was feeling, I said, "Yes!" I made Jacob speechless! When I was discharged, he came in on his day off and wished me good luck and I thanked him for all the work he put into me. He started to get quiet. He told me to stand, he wanted to give me a hug, so I did. And we fist bumped. He had tears and said he had to come in and check on his patient. During my stay, I gained another son.
