LT Cholelynn K. Malonzo is a caring and compassionate nurse who performs above and beyond on a daily basis.
I have the privilege of being the Department Head for LT Malonzo at the BMC Futenma. She is a dedicated, motivated, and positive presence in the clinic with both staff and patients alike. In her duties as the Clinic Manager, she has been instrumental in the smooth running of the clinic. One of her primary roles is publishing and maintaining the physician clinical schedule. Rather than publishing on a monthly basis alone, she ensures it is updated on a weekly basis. There have not been any times when deployments, exercises, short fuse taskers, and meetings are not accounted for and have ensured that the patients are able to be scheduled for timely appointments and are not cancelled due to physician non-availability.
In addition to the coordination of the physician schedule, she has been second to none in her ability to manage the clinic. During the highly dynamic COVID environment she has been instrumental in the coordination of all the ancillary services including audiogram, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and immunizations. She has coordinated appropriate coverages with the leadership across multiple departments and directorates ensuring the timely and appropriate coverage for the patients at Futenma. Furthermore she has never been too busy to assist our Corpsmen and Nursing staff with all routine matters including T-cons, Blood pressure screenings, STI testing and assisting the physicians in the clinic. Never satisfied with the Status Quo, she started and publishes a Division Officer weekly update. This is a way to ensure all clinical providers and staff are aware of the ancillary service schedule, leading to improved communication, patient scheduling, and patient satisfaction. This update also allows the clinic to be aware of upcoming inspections, distinguished visitors, and other important clinical events.
In her role as a mentor to Sailors at the hospital she has been instrumental in mentoring a large number of Sailors, both Enlisted and Nurse Corps Officers. She as so instrumental in her mentoring that when LTJG Walters was selected as the next Futenma Clinic Manager, her selection was directly attributed to the mentoring of LT Malonzo. Due to the IMH shortages due to PCS season, LT Malonzo has been transferred to IMH to fill this critical shortfall. Not wanting to leave her work incomplete she has worked in the Futenma clinic ensuring that LTJG Walters has a smooth turnover, and has stepped up despite unplanned challenges. She continues to ensure that the Futenma clinic is maintained.
LT Cholelynn K. Malonzo is a caring and compassionate nurse who performs above and beyond on a daily basis. In my opinion she is a rising star in the Navy. I can say as the Department Head she has allowed me to focus on the larger picture and has set the standard for what a Navy Nurse should be.
