My brother was terrified of hospitals and Kevin was able to put him at ease with his care.
My brother was admitted for complications with cirrhosis. While in the hospital he was given Kevin King as his nurse. My brother was terrified of hospitals and Kevin was able to put him at ease with his care. Kevin kept us informed of test results, why certain meds were given and other information. When my brother needed anything Kevin was very quick to come to his room to see and do what he needed. Kevin was able to get him out of his bed to sit in a chair which was a huge move in making him feel better plus him getting out of the hospital faster.
When Kevin left for the day or had the day off my brother would keep asking for him. Kevin's birthday came during my brother's stay and he insisted that I get him a present. One of my brother's requests was that I get him something that had an angel on it as he felt that Kevin was his angel at the hospital. He wanted Kevin to know how much he appreciated his concern and care. When we gave Kevin the angel pin he told us that it was "awesome" and he immediately put it on his name tag.
At a later time when I had to bring my brother to the hospital for a procedure I ran into Kevin in the cafeteria. He first asked about my brother and how he was doing. I informed him why we were there and how my brother was doing. Kevin told me to tell my brother that he thinks about him often and showed me that he still had his angel pin on his name tag. When I let my brother know that I saw Kevin and that he still had his angel pin on his name tag my brother's eyes lit up. I've been in hospitals myself, with my dad and with my brother, there was never a nurse that came close to the care that Kevin gave. His care, concern, kindness, thoughtfulness, and consideration was far greater than all nurses combined. Kevin is one in a million and my brother said he was blessed to have a nurse like Kevin and to be under his care. He's a Super Nurse no doubt and anyone under his care is blessed with the best. My brother was readmitted to the hospital after this and sadly passed away at home with hospice and his family by his side. At that time I knew I had to let the hospital know of Kevin's care for my brother in his last days. Kevin is and will always be the #1 nurse in our lives.
