When you see your manager sitting with patients and holding their hands playing music and singing with them it makes you realize that this is not just a job.
I have had the privilege of working with Anessa since I started my nursing career in 1999 at NYU 16West. She has been a mentor to me for the last 22 years. I have been honored to work alongside her as a staff nurse and now presently have the privilege to work under her as a Senior Nurse Clinician and Anessa as my nurse manager. To say that Anessa goes above and beyond doesn’t even describe the amount of compassion and commitment that she shows our patients, and my fellow staff members every day. I can probably tell years' worth of stories and examples of why Anessa is a DAISY Nurse, but honestly, there isn’t enough space to do so. Whether it’s comforting staff in stressful times or being there for patients in their last days of life, Anessa has always been a constant support and knows the right thing to say and do.

I think in my 22 years of nursing I’ve never seen a nurse show as much love for “nursing“ as I see Anessa does. Her enthusiasm and positive attitude have contributed to the senior nurses staying here on 16 west and its success to adapt to just about anything. Anessa‘s enthusiasm for our geriatric population continues to push all of us to want to do better, and learn more. When you see your manager sitting with patients and holding their hands playing music and singing with them it makes you realize that this is not just a job. She is a constant reminder of why I went into nursing, and why I continue to stay on 16West. I will continue to mentor, teach, and exhibit the highest quality of nursing care and Anessa has so much to do with it.

It has been my honor to work under such a dedicated manager. Her friendly and comforting attitude as she greets every single patient on the unit is overwhelming. She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and is a support for her team every day. Anessa is not only an extraordinary leader she is also very present on the unit. Anessa goes above and beyond not only with supporting her staff, but she is also hands-on when it comes to helping on the floor to provide patient care.
