It is undeniable that Wendy was born to be a nurse.
This letter is written on behalf of the 4 South Leadership Team for an outstanding RN by the name of Wendy Heredia. Right from the get-go Wendy let her skills and outstanding patient care truly shine. It is undeniable that Wendy was born to be a nurse. She has an innate ability to connect with her patients, regardless of age, gender, sex, race, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. As leaders we are constantly being pulled aside by patients and their families who want to take their time to recognize the excellent care that Wendy provides. It truly brings us joy to hear the patients and their families rave about Wendy.
She is the epitome of what it is to provide compassionate patient and family-centered care. Wendy has the ability in making her patients feel truly special. No request by her patient is seen as an inconvenience to her. She will drop whatever she is doing to address the needs of her patients. She even goes above and beyond to answer call lights or needs of patients that are not even assigned to her. This goes to show her amazing teamwork qualities, which is admired not only by her fellow nurses but truly treasured by our clinical partners.
Our team looks at her as the “Roadrunner” because she is “always on the go” trying to resolve any issues her patients may have. Her empathy is never forced rather it is truly altruistic. The healing that she provides to her patient is really what makes nursing her ‘calling’. Her bright and cheerful personality has been able to penetrate even the “most difficult to please customers”. She is essential to our team for patient satisfaction as well as service recovery. Although fairly new to the Baptist Health System, Wendy had all the qualities that embody the Baptist Health mission and vision.
Recently she was highly recognized by a patient who was a fellow RN in the Baptist Health system. The patient had been in and out of hospitals since the age of 17 because of kidney transplant that he had early in his life. He was honestly so impressed with the care she provided that took his time to recognize all the qualities that have been mentioned. As nurses we know we can sometimes be the worst patients or ‘difficult to please’ but she was able to win him over this by the end of her first shift with this patient. She had 2 subsequent shifts with this particular patient and the praise continued to escalate. We had the pleasure of hearing this patient admire the selflessness, empathetic, compassionate care that Wendy embodies.
