I have been in UI Hospitals & Clinics (UIHC) many times, and there are many good doctors, nurses, and technical staff. But every once in a while, there is a person who turns your life and attitude around. In my case, that happened with Erin Miller, BSN, RN.
I came into the hospital very depressed because I had been at ER in another hospital in the area and UIHC. I was bleeding profusely from my mouth, nose, and trachea. Having sat nearly eight hours in waiting rooms and ER facilities, I finally got into the ICU where Erin came on duty. She instantly raised my spirits. Erin has a passion for taking care of her patients. She is always smiling and wants to know what more she can do for you. Erin even made me feel as if I might have been a family member. Rare is the way she cares to not only be professional and yet quietly make me feel like she was there specifically to help me heal. Nothing I asked for was ever overlooked. She raised my spirits so much that I felt compelled to tell someone--so I chose this method.
I came in not particularly caring if I made it or not. Erin made it seem, by her attention to my needs, that life surely was worth fighting for. Because I am a deeply committed Christian, I was not afraid to die, even realizing the procedure I might need was risky. Erin helped me reach out to the Lord again, showing me life is a precious gift simply by how she cared for me. I sincerely appreciate her skills, compassion, and God-given talents to care for others.
