I will forever be grateful to Jordan for helping me orient to her floor so I can be better prepared to help my students.
I am a clinical instructor with UNC SON and Jordan Knight oriented me to her floor. She had three intermediate patients that day; one was already getting chemo and she had to start another on chemo which is a busy process. Problem after problem arose from a nosebleed, to air in the IV line, to a port not working properly, and patients needing her assistance for other things all at once, but Jordan handled it with grace and a smile. While addressing each problem timely, she also made sure to give her attention to each patient and family member as she entered the room. You could tell that her patients and family members had built a great rapport with her.
While she was beyond busy, she still made sure to explain procedures and policies and show me her unit. She introduced me to everyone and even went out of her way to ensure I met the life specialists. She even later emailed the life specialists and me to help set up a meeting for my students to learn about the life specialist's role. As I explained to her I had not accessed a port in years, she immediately took the time out of her busy day to show me how. She is not only an exceptional nurse to her patients, but she is also outstanding to colleagues and future nurses. I will forever be grateful to Jordan for helping me orient to her floor so I can be better prepared to help my students. She is a true definition of an extraordinary nurse for her compassion, kindness, and advocacy for her patients, family members, and colleagues; it does not go unnoticed.
