We have had a 16-year-old patient on the unit for over two weeks. A young man, who is the size of an adult, but still a child in many respects. Both parents are deceased, grandma is the guardian. The patient has many psychosocial issues coupled with a very traumatic event leading to his hospitalization. Amy has taken extra time to care for the patient and offer moral support. She has been able to connect with the patient when no one else was able to. Amy took several minutes out of her very busy day to take the patient on a walk to get off the unit and out of his room for a bit. The patient opened up to Amy about his life during their walk. She has encouraged him and talked about his future and given him hope when others had given up on him.
