This nurse has been special to me since she was in elementary school. I was her school counselor, and when I had to have surgery several years ago, she was my nurse! We connected again. I was (am) so proud of her. It is hard to get IVs in my arms. This nurse can do it on the first try. When I developed breast cancer, my first surgery was a lumpectomy. When prepping for surgery my nurse could not get an IV in my arm. He told me “There is a nurse on the floor whom I think could get it”. He went and got my special nurse and she was able to get the IV in on the first try and gave me a big hug. My next surgery was a mastectomy. This nurse picked up an extra shift to work the day of my surgery. She again was able to get my IV on the first try. She stayed with me to hold my hand as the anesthesiologist administered a block. My next surgery was the second part of breast surgery reconstruction. She was working that day and provided comfort again to me. This nurse sends me texts to see how I am doing. Everyone in the department says they love her. This nurse will always have a special place in my heart. Rachel Bryant will always be my Extraordinary Nurse.
