Kim immediately went to the shelter and adopted the dog into her own family. This act of compassion speaks volumes about the type of nurse and the type of person Kim truly is.
I've worked alongside Kim for a few years, and she is everything every nurse should desire to be. She is an incredible ICU nurse whom you want to work alongside you if your patient is starting to deteriorate; she’s quick to jump into action and her ICU competencies shine! She gives great care and puts her heart into her work. There are many reasons and even specific situations as to why she is a DAISY Nurse, but one specific act of kindness on her part really displays the kind of heart she has as a nurse.

There was an elderly patient in the ICU for whom Kim provided excellent care in the final days of her life. The patient ultimately succumbed to her injuries and her medical condition called her from this life to another. Just before her passing, Kim was made aware that the patient had a little dog at home, and obviously, knowing she was likely not going to make it back home, the patient was worried about her dog. The family who lived across the country was extremely worried and upset that the patient's beloved dog could not go home with them. So, the family ultimately surrendered the dog to a shelter. Kim had developed such a bond with the patient and the family, and she knew that this dog who had become such a huge part of their family couldn’t just be turned over to a shelter with the hope of being adopted into a kind, loving family. So, what did Kim do? Kim immediately went to the shelter and adopted the dog into her own family. This act of compassion speaks volumes about the type of nurse and the type of person Kim truly is.

She educates, serves, provides the best care, and pours her heart and soul into who she is as a nurse. And you know what, it shows!! When Kim badges in for her shift, Northside Gwinnett is immediately a better place knowing the patients in the Surgical/Trauma ICU are in good hands with Kim as part of the care team. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than her. Thank you, Kim, for the amazing nurse you are. You breathe life into humanity, and we are so fortunate to have you as part of our team.
