She pursues whatever capacities she can within her role to promote a collaborative culture and move forward the process improvements, which are unveiled through the educational projects she champions.
You cannot interact with Caitlin without being inspired to progress and learn to the maximum of your potential. She is one of the most dedicated, research-based nurse educators I have ever worked with and she goes above and beyond every day to create an environment of positive energy, growth, and learning for those she serves as an educator and for her peers within the Organizational Learning.
Even outside of her professional roles and responsibilities, you tend to find her creating homemade teaching tools that she routinely wears to work and/or attending nursing conferences for fun during her vacation days, which she pays for out of pocket. She has inspired many to get involved with our own professional development and increase their own expertise through obtaining certifications, increasing our involvement in professional organizations, and getting involved in research. She reads and shares articles relevant to other specialized areas and is always willing to share her insights when it comes to scholarly pursuits.
Furthermore, she pushes the boundaries within our organization for a clinical educator, ensuring that the projects she is involved with create quality and measurable organizational impacts --improved staff confidence, staff knowledge, and patient safety outcomes. This can be a heavy lift in an organization as big and complex as ours, but she is a force of nature when it comes to reaching out to resources such as our Nursing Research Council, various leaders/departments, and content experts. She pursues whatever capacities she can within her role to promote a collaborative culture and move forward the process improvements, which are unveiled through the educational projects she champions.
Other outstanding qualities of Caitlin include her humility and generosity. Due to turnover within her counterpart position, Caitlin has long been the only educator covering the Outpatient Oncology Ambulatory settings within our organization. Ambulatory settings involve many different building types, locations, and needs that require her to travel and understand the distinctions between the resources, staffing, and leadership at each site.
Caitlin has never hesitated to sacrifice her time and travel to ensure that all the nursing staff at each of these sites receive the same quality educational experience and connection to her as a resource and advocate. When budgets were tight and PPE in short supply due to COVID she even created, and laundered (every day), the cloth PPE gowns she created for her Chemotherapy Spill Simulation that she continued to provide to all of her RN staff. Additionally, when her projects create positive impacts, she is generous about acknowledging those she works with and highlighting the contributions of others while taking very little credit for herself. She is genuinely more excited to share and help than she is to receive credit for her great, daily work. I believe for these and so many other reasons she is a DAISY Nurse.
