To put into words the kindness and compassion Aster showed me cannot express enough about how safe and cared for she made me feel. It was definitely one of the “you had to be there” moments to understand. This was my 3rd major surgery at your hospital. I have encountered many nurses with of course many personalities. Some nice, some not so nice, but none before ever like Aster. Let me try to explain. I believe we encounter everyone we meet not by chance, but God has a purpose for every encounter, sometimes we don’t realize the “why” until later and perhaps sometimes we never remember, but I will always remember Aster. I had already been here a night (the night of my surgery), and while I won’t say the night nurse was “mean”, I will say she was just here to do her job or so that’s how she made me feel. However, the next morning when Aster walked into my room and began to speak to me I immediately felt a sense of security and peace. Her kindness and sweet disposition overwhelmed me and brought tears to my eyes. I knew then everything was going to be ok. She took the time to talk to me and listen. I know she had work to do and had other patients, but she made me feel like I was her only one. She never seemed rushed or bothered while taking care of me. She even took time to come to visit me the next day even though I wasn’t her patient. In a world where so many “bad things” are happening and nurses are “burned out” from working so hard and so much, I realized my “why” encounter with Aster. God put Aster in my path to remind me that good does exist and nurses who do their job because it was their “calling” in their heart will continue to be a blessing to those patients who are scared, lonely, or just want to know someone cares. People are quick to report “bad” experiences but I wanted to be sure to report the GREAT experience I had because of Aster Vargas.
